Tata Young ( Thai ทา ทา ยัง ; born December 14, 1980 in Bangkok ; actually Amita Marie Young ) is a Thai pop singer. She was born the daughter of an American and a Thai woman.

Career

At the age of eleven, Tata took part in the Thailand Junior Singing Contest and emerged as the winner from 5300 competitors. This success laid the foundation for her career. In 1994, at the age of 14, she signed a recording deal with GMM Grammy , the largest Thai record label . In 1995 her debut album Amita Tata Young was released in Thai. She made a name for herself early on beyond the national borders of Thailand. In 1997 she was selected by the Chinese government to perform at a concert on the occasion of the transfer of Hong Kong from Great Britain to China. She performed alongside artists such as Wet Wet Wet , Michael Learns to Rock , Lisa Stansfield , All-4-One and the Brand New Heavies .

In 2004, Tata switched from BEC TERO Records to Sony BMG BEC Tero , a joint label of BEC Tero and Sony BMG from 2001 to 2007, and recorded her first English-language album I Believe there, which then made her breakthrough across Asia. On August 24, 2006, after I Believe, their second English-language album Temperature Rising was released , which was also a huge success.

The last highlight of her career so far was her appearance at the opening ceremony for the 2007 Asian Football Cup , where she sang some of her greatest hits. The opening ceremony was broadcast live across Asia and other parts of the world. In March 2008, her album One Love was released , which she sang again in Thai.

Tata Young is probably the best-known Thai artist in Asia today. In Thailand itself, she is considered one of the most influential women. However, it probably has its biggest opponents in Thailand too. They accuse her of having a negative impact on Thai youth.
