Tatia is a genus of freshwater fish from the family of the false thorn catfish (Auchenipteridae). It occurs in South America east of the Andes from Colombia , Venezuela and Guyana to southern Brazil .

features

Tatia species are 5 to a maximum of 16 cm and have a relatively short, laterally strongly flattened body with a tail stalk that is almost as high as the trunk (height of the tail stalk = 10.1 to 18.6% of the standard length ). Behind the adipose fin they have a dorsal keel. All fins are relatively small compared to the body, the caudal fin mostly forked deep. There are three pairs of barbels around the mouth . The eyes have fat lids . In the male, the anal fin is transformed into a mating organ. The urogenital opening is separated from the anus and opens at the base of the first anal fin ray, which is enclosed by a skin pocket and, like the second anal fin ray, is thickened.
