Career

He started his professional career in 2008. In that year he completed a total of three fights (all three were scheduled for four rounds). He won his debut fight and his second fight by majority decision, while in his third fight he was able to prevail clearly and unanimously on points (40:36, 40:36, 40:37).

The following year Fukuhara played five fights, of which he lost one; two of them ended in a draw, the other two he made victorious.

In November 2015 he fought in a 10-round match against Hiroya Yamamoto for the vacant Japanese championship and won unanimously on points. In the following year three title defenses followed.

On February 26, 2017, Fukuhara competed against the Mexican Moises Calleros for the interim world championship of the WBO association and won this battle by a split judge's decision (116: 112, 116: 112, 113: 115).

When Fukuhara's compatriot Katsunari Takayama resigned his WBO world title, Fukuhara was awarded the full world champion status of this association on April 14 of the same year as "interim world champion of the WBO".

In his first title defense on August 27, 2017, he lost his belt by losing points to Ryūya Yamanaka .
