The Tauchscher is the most famous city festival in Taucha . It is celebrated for three days on the last weekend in August . The highlights of the festival include a concert on Saturday evening on the festival meadow as well as the traditional parade of the local clubs, sports communities and companies. The parade begins on Sundays at 2 p.m.

history

The Tauch tradition has its roots in the Middle Ages . The city festival originally emerged around 1600 from the Taucha plum market, which has developed into a popular festival over many years. Most of his visitors were citizens of Leipzig . It is said that the people of Leipzig in particular used the divers as an opportunity to ridicule and vilify the small country town. While the city festival enjoyed increasing popularity over the years, the gap between Leipzigers and Tauchaern was never entirely overcome, which at the end of the 19th century led to the questionable tradition of dressing up and ambushing Leipzig citizens on the Tauchschen and beating them up . Over the years, real street brawls have developed from this, which only slowly fell into oblivion at the end of the 1960s. The tradition of dressing up remained for many years and had become an integral part of the festival until the diving school was banned in the early 1970s. After the fall of the Berlin Wall and an 825th anniversary celebration in 1995, the city administration decided to revive the tradition of diving. In the following years the city festival was revitalized and regained its original popularity. Since then, the city festival has only been canceled once, when it hit the surrounding villages and communities hard in the flood of the century in 2002 .

Comment: According to an oral legend, the roots of the diving - with dressing up and fighting - lie in the market law for Leipzig around 1160, 10 years earlier. At the time, Taucha and Leipzig were roughly the same size. However, Leipzig developed quickly through trade. When they got market rights in 1170 , the Taucha people believed that development would now also begin in Taucha. But the dealers stayed away in Taucha. The Leipzigers made fun of the unfulfilled hopes of the divers. Disguised as traders from distant countries, they drove to Taucha in carts to simulate the beginning of trade and the hoped-for upswing. When the divers recognized the joke and ridicule, the above-mentioned fights broke out.

The diver today

Today the Tauchsche is a colorful hustle and bustle with various festivities. The festival is divided into events on the market and on the Taucha festival meadow. Since 2017 there has been a third event location with the strolling mile café on the corner of An der Parthe / Badergasse, which connects the festival meadow and market. Various events take place in the evening, such as dance evenings, fireworks and discos for the youth. On Saturday there is a play street in which around 40 dealers, clubs and companies take part. The main street through the old town will be blocked especially for this purpose. On the last day of the festival, on Sunday, the parade traditionally takes place through the streets of Taucha.

Modernization 2007

The Tauchsche was modernized in 2007 through the initiative of various organizers and companies and broke new ground in the field of marketing. On May 16, 2007, the city festival organizers "Pflaumino" approved the city festival mascot, which was designed by Leipzig's Marco Petzold and is intended to give the festival a new face. In 2007 there was no longer a motto that has existed every year. The event agency Hochmuth from Leipzig has been planning and organizing diving since 2008, in close consultation with the city and the clubs involved. The agency is also planning the Leipzig City Festival, among other things.
