The Tauriphila azteca is a species of dragonfly of the genus Tauriphila from the subfamily Pantalinae . Their range begins in the north in southern Texas and extends over Mexico , the West Indies and Guatemala to Costa Rica .

Construction of the Imago

The animal reaches a length of 40-44 mm, 29-35 mm of which falls on the abdomen . The hind wings are between 34 mm and 38 mm long, the thorax is brown and mostly has no pattern. Males have a metallic blue tinge on their faces. There is a black stripe in the center of the back on segments eight to ten of the abdomen. Otherwise the abdomen is yellow with black bands on each segment. In the rear wing there is a pronounced dark shadow at the base.

Similar species

The Macrodiplax balteata is similar to the T. azteca , but has a larger shadow in the hind wing.
