Tauriphila is agenus of dragonflies of the subfamily Pantalinae consistingof five species and wasfirst describedin 1889 by William Forsell Kirby . The distribution area extends mainly over northern and central South and Central America to the north of the border with the USA

features

Tauriphila species reach lengths between 40 and 50 millimeters and are mainly red to dark brown in color. The wings are transparent and have a small brown spot at the base of the hind wing. In the front wing, the last Antenodal loader only goes up to halfway.

Habitat

The representatives of the Tauriphila often fly in association with representatives of the genera Miathyria , Pantala and Tramea . They fly persistently over fields.

Systematics

The genus was first established in 1889 by William Forsell Kirby based on a dragonfly previously known as Tramea iphigenia . However, as early as 1910, Muttkowski redefined it based on the Tauriphila australis . The distinction between the species is not disputed except for the Tauriphila argo and Tauriphila xiphea . In the case of these two species, however, as Ris explained in 1913, there is uncertainty about their relationship to one another. The following species belong to the genus Tauriphila
