The party of the resurrection of the people ( Lithuanian : National Resurrection Party , in short: TPP ) was a political party in Lithuania , which in April 2008, six months before the elections to the parliament , by comedian, show host and television producer Arūnas Valinskas founded has been.

history

The founding party congress of May 18, 2008 was repeated on May 25, 2008 to dispel doubts about the necessary number of founding members (1000). The members of the party are mainly actors, musicians and other representatives of show business (including the drummer Linas Karalius , the radio presenter Antanas Nedzinskas , the singer Ingrida Valinskienė and the actor Remigijus Vilkaitis ), which gives the party the nickname žvaigždūn Stern partija (Star Party) or šoumenų partija (show people party). Others speak of an "anti-political entity".

After the protest parties Order and Justice (Liberal Democrats) and Labor Party , it is another re-establishment of the last few years, which justifies its existence mainly in the rejection of the established parties. The party itself prides itself on not having any active politicians in its ranks.

The party and its election advertising could not deny a tendency to satire (see web links). The entire election program consisted of 10 points similar to the 10 commandments . Regardless of this, the party became the second largest political force in Lithuania in the election of the Seimas in October 2008 with 15.1% of the valid votes and forms the third largest group in parliament with 18 seats.

The Resurrection Party participates in the new liberal-conservative government coalition and provides the ministers for culture and environmental protection. The party chairman Arūnas Valinskas was elected chairman of parliament with the votes of the coalition.

On March 15, 2009, Arūnas Valinskas was confirmed unopposed as chairman at the party congress and the new party statutes were adopted. In April 2009, the Lithuanian Ministry of Justice refused to recognize the new party statutes for formal reasons, as party chairman Valinska's signature was missing. This decision was upheld by the Vilnius District Administrative Court. On April 3, party leader Valinskas withdrew his candidacy for the presidential elections on June 17, 2009, before the electoral commission could officially register with the verification of the required 20,000 support votes.

After the severe defeat in the European elections at the beginning of June 2009, when the TPP was able to gain just 1% of the vote, discussions broke out about the party's future course.

In mid-July 2009 there was an initial split in the party when seven members of the TPP parliamentary group left and founded the new Ažuolas (oak) group. Among the members of this new parliamentary group are the party leader Arūnas Valinskas and his wife Ingrida Valinskienė. The trigger for the faction split was probably an internal party dispute over control of the TPP ministers and a possible replacement of the ministerial posts. When forming the new parliamentary group, Valinskas spoke of the "greed" of his colleagues in the TPP parliamentary group, while his internal party opponents spoke of the attempt to prevent a democratic party leadership.

On September 22, 2011, the TPP joined the co-ruling Liberalų ir centro sąjunga and thus dissolved.
