Tvarka ir teisingumas (liberalai demokratai) [abbreviated TT , German: "Order and Justice (Liberal Democrats)"] is a right-wing populist political party in Lithuania .

history

The party was founded in March 2002 as Liberalų Demokratieų partija ( LDP , German: "Liberaldemokratische Party"). At the fifth party meeting in May 2006, the name was changed to Tvarka ir teisingumas , after an electoral list under the name Rolando Pakso koalicija "Už tvarką ir teisingumą" ( Rolandas Paksas Coalition "For Order and Justice" ) under the leadership of the 2004 parliamentary elections LDP had started.

In the elections in October 2004, the party together with the party Už teisingą Lietuvą ("For a just Lithuania") achieved 11% of the vote and thus 11 seats. After numerous changes, the group currently has 8 members. In the 2008 parliamentary elections , the party took seventh place, scoring 5.33%.

Tvarka ir teisingumas had over 7,000 members at the end of 2008.

In the European Parliament , since the elections in June 2009 , the party was represented with 12.2% of the vote nationwide with two mandataries , who were represented by Juozas Imbrasas and her party leader Paksas. Tvarka ir teisingumas is a member of the European party Movement for a Europe of Freedom and Democracy and in the European Parliament part of the Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy Group . In the 2014 European elections , TT achieved 14.27% and thus two mandates.

The party's chairman has been Remigijus Žemaitaitis since October 2016 . Since its inception, it has been headed by Rolandas Paksas, apart from a brief interruption (January 2003 – December 2004) after he had assumed the post of neutrality as President. At the party congress on February 8, 2009, he was confirmed in his office as party chairman with a clear majority (576 of 590 votes, no vote against).

Positions

The party represents market economy principles in its party program, emphasizes the personal responsibility of the individual and is averse to government intervention. In terms of values, it is to be classified as conservative. In reality, it is primarily a vehicle for the implementation of the political ambitions of its former chairman Rolandas Paksas , the two-time prime minister and short-term president of Lithuania . It was founded by him and depends to a large extent on his popularity. Paksas counted among his electorate primarily the losers from the economic upheavals of recent years, so that social issues also play a role in his election campaign. But above all, Paksas and the Liberal Democrats present themselves as fighters against the political establishment and for incorruptibility, hence the renaming of the party. According to the party program, the party advocates the rights of ethnic minorities, especially those of Russians and Poles.
