The Tawang (also Tawang Chu ) forms the left source river of the Drangme Chhu in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh . The last three kilometers the Tawang forms the border with Bhutan .

The Tawang is fed by several glaciers on the eastern flank of the 6,488  m high Gorichen . From there it flows in a west-southwest direction through the Tawang district . It passes the district capital of the same name, Tawang, and then takes in the Cona from the right. Three kilometers above its junction with the Nyashang Chu to the Drangme Chhu, the Tawang forms the border with Bhutan in the south. The Tawang has a length of about 90 km. There are plans to use the river to generate electricity .
