Teatro Lirico di Cagliari
The Teatro Lirico di Cagliari is an opera house opened in 1993 in Cagliari (Sardinia).
History and architecture
The building replaces the Teatro Civico, which was destroyed during the Second World War. The architecture competition was won by the Bergamese architects Luciano Galmozzi, Pierfrancesco Ginoulhiac and Teresa Ginoulhiac Arslan. The house has a capacity for 1628 visitors.
In 2001 the institution won the Franco Abbiati Prize of Italian Music Critics for the innovative character and quality of its program.
During its existence, the house has concentrated on Italian premieres of rare operas such as The Feen by Wagner (1998), Dalibor by Smetana (1999), Slipper by Tchaikovsky (2000), The Egyptian Helena von Strauss (2001), Goyescas by Granados and La vida breve von de Falla (2001), Euryanthe von Weber (2002), A Village Romeo and Juliet von Delius (2002), Der Opritschnik von Tschaikowski (2003), Alfonso and Estrella von Schubert (2004), Hans Heiling von Marschner (2004) , Oedipe von Enescu (2005), Chérubin von Massenet (2006), The Birds of Braunfels (2007), The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitesch and of the Virgin Fewronija by Rimskij-Korsakov (2008).
For some years now, however, the Teatro Lirico has primarily played the repertoire that is also common in other theaters.
