Technical Sergeant (also short Tech Sergeant ) is or was a military grade in the career of non-commissioned officers in English-speaking armed forces , such as B. the US Air Force .

The Technical Sergeant (official abbreviation TSgt ) has the NATO rank code OR-6 and is thus the second non-commissioned officer in the US Air Force. The usual salutation is "Technical Sergeant" or simply "Sergeant" , but also colloquially "Tech Sergeant" .

In the Federal Armed Forces , Sergeant and Oberfeldwebel share this rank, while in the Austrian Armed Forces the Oberwachtmeister occupies this position.

The Technical Sergeant (official abbreviation Tech Sgt ) of the US Marine Corps was originally - as in the other branches of the armed forces - the second highest non-commissioned officer grade ("non-commissioned officer grade 2").

In 1948, the Technical Sergeant in the Marine Corps was classified as E-6 (corresponding to today's NATO rank code OR-6, see US Air Force) and, after a further reorganization of the ranks, renamed Gunnery Sergeant in 1959 and classified as E-7 (NATO rank code OR-7, corresponding to the German sergeant major or Austrian staff sergeant ).
