Technip SA was a French plant engineering company with headquarters in Paris . The company was founded in Paris in 1958. Technip mainly worked for the oil and gas industry . In 2017 Technip merged with FMC Technologies and thus became part of TechnipFMC .
In 2014, sales of over € 10 billion were generated, 46% of which in the “Subsea” division ( pipeline construction ) and 54% in the “Onshore / Offshore” division ( petrochemical plants).
The French company founded at the end of the 1950s developed into an international plant construction company that is one of the world's largest providers of natural gas and oil systems in the areas of extraction, transport and processing. The following are the most important facts about the development:
- 1960s: Implementation of the first projects outside France in Africa, America and Asia, including in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Aberdeen, Scotland and Houston, USA.
- 1970s: Development into an international company in the field of systems for the natural gas and oil industry. Establishment of a branch in Italy. Construction of the first underwater pipelines for natural gas and oil.
- 1980s: Establishment of further branches abroad in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Abu Dhabi. Establishment of manufacturing facilities for system components in Brazil and Newcastle, England.
- 1990s: Transformation of the company into a stock corporation. Takeover of the companies Speichim, Krebs and KTI in North America, Stena Offshore in Norway, Mannesmann Anlagenbau AG in Germany and establishment of a branch in Australia.
- From 2000: Acquisition of Aker Maritime's Deep-Water Division
Technip in Germany
The German branch of Technip is located in Düsseldorf , where - a few meters away from the previous company headquarters and near Düsseldorf Airport - a new building for the headquarters in the Rath district was built and moved into in 2016. Around 300 people are employed there. The branch was established in 1999 from Mannesmann-Anlagenbau AG , the subsidiary for energy and environmental technology of the Mannesmann Group , which has since been dissolved . Here, among other things, the construction of onshore pipeline systems, underground gas storage facilities and calcining plants are planned and erected worldwide. The main aim is to set up a turnkey system for a customer, usually a company from the chemical or petroleum industry. Technip carries out the construction, purchasing, supervision of the construction and commissioning of a plant. The actual construction of the apparatus (e.g. the welding of a boiler) is carried out by other, specialized companies according to the specifications of Technip.
After the merger of the French Technip with the American FMC Technologies at the beginning of 2017 to form “ TechnipFMC ”, the new parent company parted ways with its German subsidiary in Düsseldorf at short notice. This works as a general contractor under " MMEC Mannesmann GmbH " now as an independent company in the new building from 2016 with the same range of services.
