The technical manufacturer is a state-recognized training occupation in Germany according to the Vocational Training Act (BBiG). The duration of the training is three years. Training takes place at the company and vocational school . The training regulations were updated in 2010.

Work area

Technical clothing manufacturers work in workshops or workshops of companies that produce technical clothing for e.g. B. produce sun protection, environmental protection, construction technology, transport and protection technology. In doing so, they select textile materials and auxiliary materials, foils , composites and accessories according to areas of application and economic efficiency and use them. In order to provide the trainee with information about their performance level, an intermediate examination is provided for this training occupation. In the “joining technology” examination area, the trainee should, for example, demonstrate that they create and use sketches and technical drawings, as well as join parts with vertical and horizontal seams to form a product and take measures for work organization, safety and health protection at work, environmental protection, customer orientation, can take into account for economic efficiency and quality assurance.

The intermediate examination is carried out in the form of a work sample with a situational technical discussion. Furthermore, the trainee must work on written assignments. The exam takes a total of six hours. During this time, a situational technical discussion of a maximum of 10 minutes is held with the trainee and the written tasks of 120 minutes are processed.

The final examination also determines the professional ability to act in this profession.
The final examination consists of a total of three examination areas:

  1. Examination area “Manufacture of technical textiles”: In this examination area, the trainee should produce two textile products and apply various joining techniques such as welding, sewing or gluing, as well as all associated product-related regulations and standards. The trainee prepares two test pieces in a total of eight hours and documents his work with practice-related documents. Here, too, he or she conducts a technical discussion with the examination board , but this time for a maximum of 20 minutes.
  2. Examination area “Planning and production”: In this examination area, the trainee should work on written tasks in 180 minutes, taking into account all relationships between materials, processing technology and intended use, and creating and evaluating technical drawings.
  3. Examination area " Economics and Social Studies : In this examination area, the trainee should demonstrate in 60 minutes that he is able to present and assess general economic and social relationships in the professional and working world.

Weighting of the examination areas

The examination areas are weighted as follows:

Manufacture of technical textiles 60 percent
Planning and manufacturing 30 percent
Economics and Social Studies 10 percent

Passage regulation

The trainee has passed his final exam if the performance

  1. in the overall result with at least " sufficient ",
  2. in at least two examination areas with at least "sufficient" and
  3. have not been rated " unsatisfactory " in any examination area.

An oral supplementary examination of around 15 minutes is possible in the examination areas "Planning and Production" or "Economics and Social Studies" if the final examination can be passed. The prerequisite is that these examination areas were rated worse than "sufficient". A supplementary oral examination to improve the grade is not possible.
