Theodore William Lange (born January 5, 1948 in Oakland , California ) is an American author , director , film producer and film and theater actor . He became known in his role as the chief bartender Isaac Washington in the television series Love Boat .

Life

Lange studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London . He began his acting career with San Francisco's New Shakespeare Company. On Broadway, he was part of the ensemble of the musical Hair . In 1977 he got the role of the bartender in the TV series Love Boat . After the series ended in 1986 he played guest roles in various TV series such as Scrubs , King of Queens and Psych . In addition to acting, Lange is also active as a director and author. He also directed several episodes of Love Boat and wrote scripts for the series.

From 1978 to 1989, Lange was married to Sheryl Thompson, with whom he has two children. He has been married to Mary Ley since 2001.
