Ted Lesley (born August 1, 1937 in Düren as Friedrich Karl Helzel , † October 24, 2008 in Berlin) was a German magician , mentalist and author .

Life

As a schoolboy he came into contact with magic. At the request of his parents, he first had to complete vocational training. He became an accountant. It was not until the late 1960s that he became increasingly interested in the art of magic. In 1974 he got his first professional engagement at the industrial fair in Hanover . Shortly afterwards he got the chance to play in the evening broadcast on WDR in the TV series A Touch of Magic , which increased his level of awareness. Here he was among other things partner of Vivi Bach .

Lesley published around 80 articles in the journal Magische Welt , in which he largely described his own creations, which he later summarized and supplemented in his book Mental Mind Up . It was published in English in 1996 under the title Ted Lesley's Paramiracles . From 1997 to 1998 he published his own specialist periodical, Mind & Magic Magazin , of which 10 issues appeared.

In 1979, Lesley acted as a trick consultant for the actor Alan Arkin in the Israeli-German-Canadian film The Magician of Lublin ("The Magician"). In the same year, he gained national attention with an appearance on the ZDF show Der große Preis , in which he announced that he wanted to burst a lightbulb with the power of thought. The feat failed, however.

In 1995, ZDF produced a 30-minute portrait of Ted Lesley in the TV series 37 Grad .
