Ed Kirkeby

Wallace Theodore "Ed" Kirkeby (born October 10, 1891 in New York , † June 12, 1978 in Mineola ) was an American band leader and music manager.

Live and act

Kirkeby was from 1916 representative and from 1917 producer at Columbia Records for jazz and was manager of the California Ramblers , in whose creation in 1920 he was involved. In 1926 he began to appear as a singer on their recordings and conducted recordings with musicians from the Ramblers under the pseudonym Ted Wallace . His bands had different names when they were recorded such as Five Birmingham Babies , The Varsity Eight , Ted Wallace and His Campus Boys , The Goofus Five , The Little Ramblers , The Vagabonds , and he recorded under pseudonyms such as Ted Wallace, Ed Kirkeby Wallace and Eddie Lloyd on. From 1930 to 1932 he led numerous studio sessions for ARC .

He also managed the Pickens Sisters in the 1930s and worked for RCA Victor from 1935 , for which he reissued the California Ramblers and recorded as Ted Wallace, and from 1938 for NBC (as a booking agent for bands). From 1938 until his death in 1943 he was the manager of Fats Waller , for whom he also built up an archive that came to the jazz archive of Rutgers University . He remained active as a manager until 1977 (including Pat Flowers and the Deep River Boys ).

He wrote a biography about Fats Waller, Ain´t Misbehavin (New York 1966 and Da Capo 1976).
