Teddy Bill

Teddy Bill (born November 18, 1900 in Vienna ; † February 11, 1949 there ; born Hans Günter Leo Kern ) was an Austrian actor .

Life

In 1917/18 he served as a war volunteer in the First World War and then trained as an actor at the Imperial-Royal Theresian Academy . In 1920 Bill began his theater career at cabaret stages in Vienna. In addition, he was successful as a racing car driver and won 16 prizes. In 1925 he went to Berlin, where he appeared with couplets in numerous cabaret performances.

Since 1926 he has appeared in silent films as an increasingly funny fat man. After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists, he retired to Austria and now called himself Teddy Kern . He continued his career in theater and film in Austria.

After the annexation of Austria , the Nazis found out in the spring of 1939 that Kern's mother's husband was Jewish. However, he was able to prove that this was not his father, whereupon he was allowed to continue as Hans Kern with a few tiny roles. After the war he was active again as Teddy Kern .

His grave is in the Döblinger Friedhof (Gr. 27, No. 1A) in Vienna.
