Tea (singer)
Tomo Ishida ( Japanese 石田 智 , Ishida Tomo ; born November 26, 1982 in Hiroshima , Hiroshima Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese J-Pop singer with pop and R&B influences. In the music industry he is known under his pseudonym Tee (spelling: TEE).
Life and career
From the age of 16, Tee began to be interested in boxing and later went to the Hōsei University , where he was trained as a professional boxer for three years in order to be registered for the 2004 Summer Olympics . However, he dropped out of training because of an elbow and shoulder injury and left university. After graduating, he studied in Toronto , Canada in the fall of 2005 .
When he excited the 3000-person audience as a DJ in a club , he finally picked up the microphone and got a raise because he was now on stage himself. He gave a weekly appearance for the club and also performed on the street every day. After a year and nine months in Canada, he finally decided to start a singing career in Japan.
After he arrived in Japan and his indie - EP range recorded was a song of the album, Do not Cry Hiroshima , played in some clubs and on the streets of Hiroshima. In this way he could in the opening act of artists like Ai , Full of Harmony and Jamosa audition. He then moved to Tokyo and released his EP Palette under the indie label Nano Rebel . The release made one of the songs, Change My Life , the single of the week on iTunes (Japan).
The album did not enter the Oricon charts, however, but Tee got attention and received a major order from Universal Music Japan, which led to the change of record company. So he released his debut album, which is called Kido I Raku . With his second single Baby I Love You , he was able to get the attention of a larger audience. The single set a record as it was listed on the Usen J-Pop charts for 22 consecutive weeks . It has also been legally downloaded more than 700,000 times as a chaku-uta . Thereby he won the Billboard Japan Music Award 2010 for the best newcomer or in the original category New Artist of the Year . His third single Denwa de Dakishimete ( Japanese 電話 で 抱 き し め て ) also reached the top position in the daily charts on the following two days.
Over time, he released more albums and singles, including duets with artists such as Che'Nelle and Crystal Kay .
