Teen Dream is the third studio album of the Dream-pop duos Beach House from Baltimore . It was released on Sub Pop on January 26, 2010, although black copies of the album appeared on the Internet as early as November 19, 2009.
The album was produced by Chris Coady, who has already produced albums for TV on the Radio , the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Blonde Redhead . The album is also the duo's first album on Sub Pop , with Bella Union in the UK and Arts & Crafts in Mexico .
History of origin
The recording of Teen Dream took place after extensive touring for the previous album Devotion . The duo endeavored to create a more sophisticated album, and according to the group, the record's demos were comparable to the final tracks. The use of the complex reverb effect was significantly withheld. According to Alex Scally, there is very little reverb on the record.
The album was considerably more expensive to produce. Alex Scally in an interview with Pitchfork Media :
“We spent all the little money we had. It was extremely expensive to record. With every step on the way [to the finished album] we tried to give even more, to go further. "
reception
The reception of the album was very positive. Metacritic , which collects reviews from various publications, gives the album a rating of 82%. Many reviews noted the change in sound. BBC Music writes:
"The best hit note on Teen Dream is the tone of a band that has found its own voice."
Mark Richardson of Pitchfork Media gave the record 9.0 / 10.0 points and called it "both the most varied and audible of the three studio albums, and yet the record never seems like a compromise." Several reviews focused on Legrand's singing. The Rolling Stone compared the singing to a "singing twilight torch ... excellent".
Other reviews, however, were less positive. The Guardian awarded only 4/10 points . "Strangely icy and melodically a little ineffective," the newspaper said. While The Austin Chronicle consistently called the album and gave it three stars, the review states that the duo "still has gold dust to blow away".
