Sub-index

A sub-index or sub-index is an index , the performance respectively the performance of a selected according to specific criteria subset of a larger index (usually an equity index represents).

motivation

The shopping carts used in practice are often extremely extensive. For this reason, groups of similar and related goods are combined to form partial goods baskets . Sub-indices, which can be determined with the help of these sub-baskets, have a specific economic information content if the goods are grouped appropriately .

Examples

  • The DivDAX contains the higher dividend half of all stocks in the DAX .
  • The indices of the STOXX Europe 600 Supersectors family are derived as sub-indices from the STOXX Europe 600 .
