Life

After initially serving in the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel , he became major general and commander of the Hesse-Darmstadt district of Giessen . However, he developed his main activity in Russian services . From 1736 to 1739 he participated in the Russian-Austrian Turkish War in the campaigns against the Turks and Tatars. In 1736 he encountered Tatars with an advance detachment and was wounded in the ensuing battle. After the retreat of the army on Perekop he was ordered to explore the east coast of the Crimea and the strait there with a strong corps . After driving the Tatars to flight, he carried out his mission happily. On June 15, 1738 he was wounded again at Perekop. In 1741 he moved from Russian to Prussian service. In November 1741 he arrived in Berlin and in August 1742 received the Prussian "Kannenberg Regiment on Horseback" (D IV) , now as Lieutenant General. He had held this rank in Russia since 1736.

Now the Netherlands wanted to appoint him as general of the infantry , possibly because he had participated in the War of the Spanish Succession at the very beginning of his military career .

However, he died on October 19, 1742 in Berlin.
