Teilingia is a species from the green algae group of ornamental algae (Desmidiales) that occursin freshwater. It consists of four types.

features

The representatives form unbranched threads from a row of cells. The threads are 35 to 70 micrometers in diameter. The cells are not flagellated , square in outline and divided into two symmetrical halves by a central constriction, the sinus. The sine is wide open. On each half-cell there are four conspicuous warts in the places where the cells collide with the neighboring cell. The cell nucleus sits in the middle of the cell, in each half there is a chloroplast with a clearly visible pyrenoid .

The asexual reproduction is performed by the characteristic of the single-celled algae ornamental cell division. The sexual reproduction is done by the zygnematophyceae characteristic conjugation . The zygote forms a heavily ornamented cell wall and remains connected to the four empty cell halves.

Occurrence

The representatives of the genus occur mainly in oligotrophic , acidic waters, but can also be found in other types of water.
