Partial engine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A sub- motor is a motor that is missing individual components required for operation. Reconditioned sub-motors are mostly used as replacement motors for defective or maintenance-requiring units in which the other components are already present. In vehicle tuning , sub-engines, which can also be modified , are often used to build your own engines.

variants

Partial motors are available on the market in two versions with different expansion levels.

Short block

The short block is a pure engine block without a cylinder head and without any ancillary units. The scope of delivery may differ depending on the provider. However, the short block often contains essential components such as the crankshaft , pistons , piston rings or bearings .

Long block

The long block also does not contain any ancillary units, but is equipped with a cylinder head. Usually, however, the ignition system , carburetor or injection pump , water and fuel pump , fan and other components are missing . As with the short block, the exact scope of delivery is not specified.

quality

Partial engines are mostly used engines, for example from decommissioned or defective vehicles. Although the engines are usually overhauled and cleaned, it is not clear to buyers how carefully and comprehensively the processing was carried out. In order to establish a uniform quality standard for reconditioned sub-engines, the members of the Gütegemeinschaft der Motoreninstandsetzungbetriebe eV (GMI) give engines that have been renewed in accordance with the requirements of the RAL quality mark for engine repair with a corresponding quality stamp. Buyers can see what work was carried out on the engine before it was put back on the market.
