Telemadrid is the first autonomous television station in the Autonomous Community of Madrid and the fifth autonomous television station in Spain after Televisió de Catalunya, Euskal Telebista, Televisión de Galicia and Canal Sur. It was affiliated from the start with the Federación de Organismos o Entidades de Radio y Televisión Autonómicos and is a public broadcaster owned by the Autonomous Community of Madrid. The station started broadcasting on May 2, 1989. Education programs dominate the program, but also current programs with political content, as Madrid is the seat of the Spanish government. Telemadrid's sister station is LaOtra .

Reception outside of Spain

The international version of Telemadrid was freely available in large parts of Europe via Astra 1KR . Currently (June 4, 2013) Telemadrid is switched off on Astra 19.2 East. The station can also be received over the Internet via Zattoo .
