The Telluride Bluegrass Festival is one since 1974 every summer in Telluride in the mountains of Colorado held forming Bluegrass - Openair Festival.

history

The festival grew out of the annual American Independence Day celebration in Telluride that dates back to 1899 . In 1973 the event, which had previously lasted several days, was reduced to a one-day and more family-friendly event, and a bluegrass band appeared for the first time. The Fall Creek Band suggested that the city host a festival the following year.

On July 6, 1974, the festival took place for the first time with three bands and around 1,000 spectators. In 1975 it was brought forward to a weekend in the week before July 4th. Since then it has always been held on the third weekend in June. The number of viewers increased every year. Due to the limited space and resources in Telluride, the number of visitors was limited to a maximum of 10,000 people.

Artists and bands

The artists who performed at the festival include: Johnny Cash (1997), the Dixie Chicks (1991), Béla Fleck (1986 and ff.), Emmylou Harris (1985 and ff.), Alison Krauss (1989 and ff .) and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (1986 and ff.).
