Temora was founded in 1879 during a gold rush , and in the 1880s it had a population of up to 20,000. It has been a separate community since 1891. At the beginning of the 20th century, numerous German immigrants came to Temora.
The place is a railway junction and trading center for agricultural products (wheat) and cattle (cattle, sheep). There is an agricultural and building materials industry in the city.
