Temple Run is an endless video game first released in August 2011 . It was developed by Imangi Studios and is currently available for download for Windows Phone , iOS , Android and Kindle Fire . The game is available free of charge and is financed through a freemium system. It occupies a leading position in the download statistics.

A successor version and two versions based on current movies have already appeared.

Gameplay

The game is about a character who is fleeing from " Evil Demon Monkeys " in a temple complex . As a player, you have to use the touchscreen to steer the figure to the left or right, but you can also control it by moving the device. You also have to jump up or slide them to avoid obstacles. If a mistake is made, such as running over a demarcation or into an abyss, the character dies and the game begins again.

The longer you manage to let the figure run, the more points you get. Coins can be collected along the way. These allow additional game content such as power-ups , other game characters or background images to be activated. It is possible to purchase the coins for real money. There are also certain goals, also known as “objectives”, such as walking a certain distance without collecting coins. If you achieve such a goal, the “multiplier” increases, which is a decisive factor in calculating the points. Thus you can get a higher high score with the same running distance. If all goals have been achieved and all additional game content has been acquired, the only task is to increase the high score.

Platforms

Temple Run is compatible with iPod touch , iPhone and iPad from iOS 4.3. There is a game center integration.

An Android version was released in the 2nd quarter of 2012. On March 6, 2012, the developers announced that Temple Run will be available for download on Google Play from March 27 , but not for all Android devices.

On May 25, 2012, a version for the Amazon Kindle Fire was also released.

Temple Run for Windows Phone 8 has been available free of charge since December 24, 2013 .

reception

The game has been downloaded over 500 million times. With almost 50 million players at Game Center, it is one of the most played apps of all and is in the top 50 of the most loaded apps. All of the titles in the "Temple Run" series combined have seen more than a billion downloads.

The game was also recognized in the 2013 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards for Favorite App category.

successor

On January 16, 2013, the successor "Temple Run 2" was released. Two weeks after its release, 50 million downloads were recorded. For the Android platform, “Temple Run: Merida” was released on June 14, 2012 to accompany the film Merida - Legend of the Highlands (North American premiere on June 22, 2012 and German premiere on August 2, 2012) and a little later for both Android and Apple's iOS "Temple Run: Oz" for the film The Fantastic World of Oz (world premiere on February 14, 2013 and German premiere on March 7, 2013). Both versions are identical in terms of the gameplay, only the graphics have been adapted to the respective film.
