The Templo Inglés ( Catedral Santisima Trinidad ; Holy Trinity Cathedral ) is an Anglican church building in the Uruguayan capital Montevideo . The church is the cathedral of the Diocese of Uruguay of the Iglesia Anglicana del Cono Sur de América . It is located in the south of the Montevidean Barrio Ciudad Vieja west of Plaza España on Calle Reconquista 522 as well as on Treinta y Tres and Rambla Gran Bretaña .

The Holy Trinity Church was built in 1844/1845 for the British naval personnel who came to Montevideo during the Uruguayan War of 1843-1852 . The architect Antonio Paullier designed the church in a strictly classical style based on the model of Greco-Roman temples .

Because of the construction of the Rambla Sur , the church was demolished in August 1934. Afterwards, the reconstruction began, offset and rotated a short distance. The new church, which was equipped with the original furnishings, is a largely faithful replica of the original building. However, the two small towers on the back have been left out. The new building was consecrated on June 6, 1936.

The Templo Inglés has been classified as a Monumento Histórico Nacional since 1975 .
