Tenebrae (choir)

Tenebrae is a London-based professional vocal ensemble founded and directed in 2001 by former Kings Singer Nigel Short. Barbara Pollock was co-founder. It was named after the Tenebrae responsories , the masses for Holy Week , by the Spanish Renaissance composer Tomás Luis de Victoria .

The choir's repertoire includes works from the 16th to the 21st century.

The group entered the concert stage in 2001 with their own composition The Dream of Herod by director Nigel Short. Since then she has worked with composers such as Karl Jenkins , Pierre Thilloy , Alexander Levine and Joby Talbot . The performance of contemporary music is complemented by the performance of medieval singing to romantic masterpieces.

The group has made concert tours in Europe, North America and Bermuda. She has performed at numerous music festivals (BBC Proms, Montreux Choral Festival, Edinburgh Festival). The choir has performed successfully in larger orchestral works with the London Symphony Orchestra under Colin Davis , with The English Concert , the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and with other orchestras.

The group has so far used the Signum , LSO Live! , Warner Classics , EMI Classics , Deutsche Grammophon and Decca recordings.
