The Tepi , whose crater is also known as Bishan Waka , is a densely forested basaltic shield volcano . It is located in southern Ethiopia about 300 km west of the great African rift valley . The volcano is believed to have originated in the Holocene. There are smaller craters and hot springs around the large volcano. Lava can be found in some of the surrounding valleys . Around the volcano there is a volcanic area also known as the Tepi volcanic field .
