Terry Walsh

Terence ("Terry") Arthur Walsh (born November 20, 1953 in Kalgoorlie-Boulder ) is a field hockey coach and former player who played as a striker for Australia . He represented Australia at two Olympic Games and won a silver medal in Montreal in 1976 . After his active career he became a coach and had successful times with the teams from Australia and the Netherlands . He also coached the Indian men's team and led the team to their first gold medal at the Asian Games in 16 years.

Coaching career

Walsh was the head coach of the Australian national team in the 1990s . Under him, the team won the Champions Trophy gold at the 1998 and 1999 Commonwealth Games and bronze at the 2000 Olympic Games . He then coached the Dutch men's team at the 2004 Olympic Games and won a silver medal with them. He was named coach of the Indian men's team in 2013 before submitting his resignation in October 2014. The reason he cited "difficulties in getting used to the decision-making style of the sports bureaucracy in India". However, he withdrew his resignation the next day. Under his leadership, the team won the first gold medal in 16 years at the 2014 Asian Games. He resigned again in November 2014, citing “bureaucratic interventions”. He is currently the head coach of the Kalinga Lancers in the '' Hockey India League ''.
