Testacella puisseguri is an extinct species of the genus backpack snail ( Testacella ) from the suborder of the land snail (Stylommatophora). So far the species has onlybecome knownfrom a small area in France . The finds are of Pliocene age.

features

The flat ear-shaped housing is comparatively small. The holotype measures 3.75 mm in length and 2.25 mm in width. It is elliptical to slightly ovoid in outline. The thread is very small in relation to the overall housing and almost completely rolled up. As a result, it does not or hardly stands out from the outline of the housing and is separated from the last turn by a groove. The spindle is curved. The mouth is very large and pointed ovoid. The outer edge (edge of the mouth) is widened like a wing. It is thickened towards the thread. The skin is only moderately thick.

Similar species

The species is closely related to the species Testacella deshayesi Michaud, 1855, also from the Pliocene . Both types have the pronounced furrow that separates the small thread from the ear-shaped last turn. They differ, however, in that with Testacella deshayesi the thread protrudes clearly from the outline of the housing, while with Testacella puisseguri it is more or less integrated into the outline of the housing. The channel is sunk into the outline.

Geographical distribution and age

The species has so far only been known from the Plaisancien (Pliocene) from the Valles des Tilles , between Cessey-sur-Tille and Chambeire , approx. 16 km east-southeast of Dijon , France.

Taxonomy

The taxon was first described by W. Richard Schlickum in 1967 together with the species Testacella schuetti from the Miocene of Lower Austria . A total of three specimens by Abbé JJ Puissegur ( Flavigny-sur-Ozerain , Département Côte-d'Or ) were found and named after him. No further finds have been made since then.
