Testacella schuetti is an extinct species of the genus backpack snails ( Testacella ) from the subordination of land snails (Stylommatophora). So far, the species has only been known from a single site of the Miocene age in Lower Austria .
features
The flat-ear-shaped case is 4.25 to 5 mm high and 2.25 to 3.2 mm wide. It is slender-ovoid in outline and pointed at the apex. The thread is very small and only slightly protrudes from the outline of the housing. The mouth is narrow-ovoid. The outer wall is simple, i.e. H. not extended or thickened like wings. The spindle wall is greatly thickened. The surface of the juvenile case shows closely spaced, very small pits that are arranged approximately radially. z. T. strong growth strips, with one group of growth strips being separated from the next group of growth strips by a channel.
Similar species
Testacella schuetti resembles most of the recent gray-yellow backpack snail ( Testacella haliotidea ). With a length of 7 to 8 mm and a width of 5 to 6 mm, this is significantly larger. It also has a wing-like widening of the outer wall.
Geographical distribution and age
The species has so far been found in the Hollabrunn sand pit , Lower Austria . It occurs there in the Sarmatian Risso layers. Schütt found 25 more copies.
Taxonomy
The taxon was established by W. Richard Schlickum in 1967 together with the species Testacella puisseguri from the Pliocene of France . So far, the snail is only known from the type locality and the stratum typicum.
