The Tetra Gospel Book of Tsar Ivan Alexander or The Four Gospels of Tsar Ivan Alexander ( Bulgarian Четвероевангелие на (цар) Иван Александър / Tschetweroewangelie na (Tsar) Ivan Alexandar) is an illuminated Gospel book in the 13th Bbulgarian language of a monk Order of the Bulgarian Tsar Ivan Alexander was written. The manuscript is one of the most important literary art treasures of medieval Bulgarian culture and an important work of the Tarnovo School of Literature and Painting .
The manuscript, now in the London British Library is (Add. MS 39627), consists of the texts of the four Gospels with 366 (or 352, depending on the grouping) miniatures illustrated and at 286, 33 x 24.3 cm large , Parchment sheets were grouped together. Folio 74 depicting the Last Judgment has been stolen in the past.
In the late 14th century the manuscript was in Moldova . a. belonged to Prince Alexandru cel Bun. At an unknown point in time, the manuscript came to Mount Athos . In 1837 the manuscript was in the Agiou Pavlou monastery and was brought to England by Robert Curzon from there . In 1917 the manuscript was donated to the British Library . In 2017 it was included in the list of World Document Heritage by UNESCO .
