Teus Hagen

Teus Hagen (born 1945 ) is a Dutch internet pioneer.

biography

Hagen began his career in the computer laboratory at the Mathematisches Zentrum. He later initiated the Dutch and European Unix user groups NLUUG and EUUG (which later became EURopen ). As chairman of the EUUG, he founded the European Unix Network ( EUnet ) in 1982 as a data transmission service of the EUUG. EUnet was the first public broadband network in Europe.

He started working with TCP / IP at the University of California at Berkeley in 1983 . One of his team members, Daniel Karrenberg , is the author of the report in favor of TCP / IP for global networking in Europe.

From 1992 to 2008 Hagen was chairman and director of NLnet and helped turn it into the largest Dutch Internet service provider. NLnet funds free internet research and development. In this position, Hagen became involved in the community-driven certification body CAcert from 2004 and was a member of the board and in 2008 he was president.

Awards and honors

Hagen was recognized by NLUUG and Usenix for his open source contributions and in 2013 was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame as "Global Connector".
