Internet Hall of Fame

The Internet Hall of Fame was established in 2012 by the Internet Society to honor personalities who made significant contributions to the creation and development of the Internet and made its worldwide availability possible.

The Internet Hall of Fame was created on April 23, 2012 at the “Global INET” conference in Geneva by the Internet Society on the occasion of its twentieth anniversary. On this occasion, the first 33 personalities were inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame.

In 2013, 32 other personalities followed. The ceremony took place on August 3, 2013 in Berlin . Originally Istanbul provided for the celebrations, but had to because of the continuing protests against the Turkish government , another venue to be selected.

In 2014, 24 new members joined the Internet Hall of Fame. They were announced in Hong Kong on April 8, 2014 .

Another 14 members were added in 2017. For the first time, no members were accepted in the Pioneers category . The announcement was made on September 18, 2017 in Los Angeles .

Members of the Internet Hall of Fame

There are three categories of admission to the Internet Hall of Fame:

• Pioneers ( pioneers ): personalities from around the world contributed significant contributions to the design and development of the Internet.
• Global Connectors ( Global connector ) from around the world contributed personalities significant contributions to the growth and use of the Internet.
• Innovators ( innovators ): Personalities, achieved outstanding technological, commercial or political progress and helped to expand the reach of the Internet.

An asterisk (*) indicates posthumous admission to the Internet Hall of Fame.
