Tevfik Turan

Tevfik Turan (* 1954 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish Germanist , editor and literary translator living in Germany .

Life

Turan studied German language and literature and art history in Turkey, where he worked as a translator and German teacher. Since 1981 he has been lecturer for Turkish at the University of Hamburg .

Turan is responsible for revising dictionaries for the Langenscheidt publishing house . The Turkish language textbook Türkçe Kursu (1 and 2) comes from him . As a literary translator, Turan translated works by Walter Benjamin , Peter Handke , Ernst Jandl , Franz Kafka , Alexander Kluge , Klaus Mann , Sten Nadolny , Cees Noteboom , Patrick Süskind and Stefan Zweig into his mother tongue. In 2016, Turan received the “Tarabya” award for his complete work in translation. From 1989 he translated from Turkish into German together with Christina Tremmel-Turan. He is also the publisher of “Verlag auf dem Ruffel” and “OPM” in Istanbul.
