job profile

Textile chemists work in teams in the textile industry with their colleagues and with other specialists in the field of textile technology and chemistry. They work in the production and finishing of various textile fibers. To do this, they set up the machines, set up treatment solutions and dye baths, control the apparatus, control and measuring devices and monitor the finishing process.

education

The content of the training corresponds to the requirements and tasks of the profession. In Austria, apprentices are trained for 3.5 years in the dual system at vocational schools and in training companies. In this way, they acquire theoretical and practical knowledge and skills, which they use to take the final apprenticeship examination at the end of their training . Related apprenticeships can be completed with a shorter apprenticeship period, such as B. Chemical laboratory technicians or textile cleaners . Numerous subject-specific advanced training courses are available as well as training to become a foreman . Independent professional practice is possible for textile chemists, among other things, in the regulated trade of textile cleaners or in the free trade of textile finishers. For higher qualifications at colleges, technical colleges and universities, you need the vocational matura (vocational matriculation examination), which consists of the final apprenticeship examination and four other exams.
