Tha-Norr was a German black metal band from Celle .

Band history

The band was founded in 1992 and initially had problems finding a suitable drummer; therefore she initially worked with session drummers, including when recording their 1994 demo Assault on Aerie . Several appearances with Mayhemic Truth , Countess , Mortuary Drape and Drowned followed. Nazgul's Eyrie Productions released their only album Wolfenzeitalter in 1995 . The text of the opening song Tears for All Those Who Died was written by Hendrik Möbus . With Wolfenzeitalter , Purgatory and Weltschmerz there were a total of three German-language titles, which was unusual for the time. A last appearance took place in 1997 together with Sabbat , Barathrum and Countess. Except for Theby (drums), who was or is still active in other underground bands such as Drowned, none of the members appeared again. In 2009, Wolfenzeitalter was re-released on double vinyl by Amor Fati Productions.

Music style and ideology

Tha-Norr plays typical second wave Black Metal from Norway, which is mostly played without keyboards. Frank Stöver described the music on Assault on Aerie in Voices from the Darkside as ordinary Black Metal played in the usual way. The song structures are simple, the sometimes epic atmosphere of the album Wolfenzeitalter is created by the simple song structures that alternate between slow and fast passages and by the screams and occasionally by piano and flute passages, subtle keyboards, a dark, but clear, melodic voice and keyboards is added. Barbarian Wrath, the successor to Nazgul's Eyrie Productions, compared the style to " Hellhammer on Speed ". The change between clear, but deeply mixed singing in individual songs and a dominant high-pitched screeching voice in the style of (early) Burzum and Darkthrone should also make the songs atmospheric.

The band members state that they do not worship anyone but themselves. Her beliefs are heavily inspired by Aleister Crowley's Liber AL vel Legis . Crowley and Gregor A. Gregorius , the founders of the Fraternitas Saturni , are thanked for their inspiration in the booklet of the album.

reception

At the time, the group was hardly noticed. However, Barbarian Wrath sees the wolf age as an inspiration for numerous later bands such as Moonblood . Alexander von Meilenwald (ex- Nagelfar ) described her album as "a fantastic, extremely atmospheric underground gem". The Rock Hard was one album to the "250 black metal albums, should know the man".
