Moonblood was a German black metal band from Schneeberg in Saxony that was founded in 1994 and has since been disbanded.

history

In 1991 Occulta Mors, Count Damien Nightsky, Lord Asmoday and Blacksoul founded the death metal band Purulent Obduction, which played Black Metal from 1993 and was renamed Demoniac. After an internal dispute, Count Damien Nightsky and Lord Asmoday formed the band Andras , while Occulta Mors and Blacksoul renamed the band Moonblood. In their nine-year career, the band recorded several demos , some of which were also available as bootlegs on CD. The full albums were Blood and War on Majestic Union in 1995 and Taste Our German Steel (whose cover is from the game Heroes of Might and Magic III ) in 2000 on End All Life Productions , both in strictly limited editions as LPs. There were also various split releases including Deathspell Omega and Katharsis .

Style and reception

Moonblood are considered a cult band in the German black metal scene. Their raw and primitive sound, borrowed from the second wave of black metal from Norway, especially Darkthrone , became the forerunner of German bands like Nargaroth . So it is not surprising that Nargaroth Moonblood's Kanwulf describes in his album Black Metal ist Krieg as "[the only] Black Metal band in Germany that is worth mentioning in addition to Absurd ". Occulta Mors also took part as a drummer on this album, which also features a cover of Moonblood's The Gates of Eternity . Moonblood's albums, and especially the demos, are now considered sought-after collector's items. Moonblood is also cited as inspiration by Judas Iscariot from the United States and Satanic Warmaster from Finland.

Moonblood itself is considered an apolitical band. The band member Occulta Mors was also active as a guest musician in right-wing extremist bands such as Totenburg . After the end of Moonblood, he formed the band Nachtfalke . In their interviews he describes himself as a member of the master race . In addition, he showed the Hitler salute at concerts by the band Lyssa and was therefore excluded from the band.
