Thanasis Vengos

Thanasis Vengos ( Greek Θανάσης Βέγγος , transcr. Also Thanasis Veggos or Thanassis Vengos ; born May 29, 1927 in Neo Faliro , Piraeus ; † May 3, 2011 in Athens ) was a Greek actor and director . As an actor, he has appeared in over 120 films, mostly comedies from the 1950s, 60s and 70s. He is a bearer of the Order of the Phoenix of the Greek Republic.

Life

Thanasis Vengos made his debut in 1952. He got his first leading role in Psila ta heria Hitler ('Hands up, Hitler') from 1962.

He often played simple characters struggling to 'make ends meet', but also anti-heroes, pure dramas, and appeared on stage in comedies by Aristophanes . In his films he was simply called Thanasis. He often worked with the director Giorgos Lazaridis. In 2004 a documentary about his life was published (A man for all seasons). He has always played his roles without stuntmen and also in dangerous stunts such as hanging on a rope from a balcony or walking through glass doors. During the “golden sixties” of the Greek film industry, he made the most famous of his films, such as the series Secret Agent 000, Papatrehas, Crazy Veggos and many others. Most of them were produced by their own company Θ-Β comedy film (Tainies Geliou, films for laughing).

Vengos was married and had two children.
