The Bridgewater Treatises

The Bridgewater Treatises are a series of natural theological writings of the 19th century , edited by Francis Egerton, 8th Earl of Bridgewater (published posthumously 1833-1840).

Reactions

Some works from then on held a high place in apologetic literature. One review worth mentioning comes from Edgar Allan Poe . The anatomist Robert Knox verulkte the series as Bilgewater Treatises ( bilge water -Traktat ), which as Juxbegriff including in letters of Charles Darwin is to be found. As a free rider on the series, Charles Babbage released one of his as The Ninth Bridgewater Treatise, A Fragment. designated text.
