Overview

The game is a so-called isoshooter . The game world is isometric and the player sees it from a kind of bird's eye view . The game content consists of fighting your way through a multitude of levels with two mercenaries and ultimately destroying the eponymous chaos engine of the mad inventor Baron Fortesque. Both characters can be taken over by human players; if there is only one human participant, the second figure is controlled by the computer. In addition to the action , which consists of battles against countless monsters, The Chaos Engine offers a number of puzzle elements. In each level, the exit must first be activated by completing certain tasks; there are often several alternative routes through the levels. The player can also collect power-ups.

Press and index

After its release, the game received great praise and prizes from the trade press due to the varied game design, the good graphics and music and the long-lasting fun. The importance of cooperation between the two characters was particularly positive; they must support each other in order to stand up to the hordes of opponents. In Germany, The Chaos Engine was placed on the index for writings harmful to young people on March 31, 1995 .
