The Collective, Inc. was an American computer game development studio headquartered in Newport Beach , California . Since it was founded in 1997, the company has developed several games, primarily based on films and TV shows .

history

The company was founded in 1997 by Douglas Hare, Gary Priest and Richard Hare, three former employees of Virgin Interactive . The company's first projects were the porting of the Men in Black games and the game of life board game implementation , which until then had only been available for Windows , to the PlayStation game console . The developers mainly worked on titles whose names were known from film and television and licensed for them. They also developed their own game development software called Slayer, which they used for the development of the games Buffy and Indiana Jones and the legend of the Imperial Crypt , among other things . In 2004 the company had 90 employees.

On March 29, 2005 it was announced that The Collective will merge with Backbone Entertainment under the umbrella company Foundation 9 Entertainment . In 2007, The Collective merged within Foundation 9 with Shiny Entertainment to form Double Helix Games .
