The Connells are an American band that mainly represents the styles of Britpop and Rock . They became known especially in Europe in the spring of 1995 with the hit single '74 - '75 . However, there were no further successes, so that the band is now considered a one-hit wonder .
Band history
The Connell Brothers grew up in Macon , Georgia , but were more interested in British bands like The Beatles than the locally hip southern rock . In 1984 they formed the guitar band named after them with college friends in Raleigh , North Carolina .
The Connells have existed with little changed line-up since their inception. Drummer John Schultz was only there when the band was founded, and Peele Wimberley is already on the cover of the first album . Guitarist George Huntley, who decisively shaped the style of the band and was represented on each album with several of his own songs, left the band in 2001. Steve Potak became a member of the Connells in 1991 and was first heard on the album Ring .
In addition to the activities in the band, there are a few other activities of the members, for example MacMillan played in almost all films directed by the original drummer John Schultz .
successes
The group achieved their only international success with the album Ring and the single release '74 - '75 in 1995. The single reached number 7 on the German charts in spring 1995 , number 6 in Austria and number 3 in Switzerland achieved a top 20 hit with 14th place. The album reached number 16 in Germany, number 10 in Austria and number 21 in Switzerland. Due to the relatively great success, some older albums were also reissued in Germany. After that, the band did not achieve any notable successes in Europe or in the USA, so that they are still considered a typical one-hit wonder today.
