The Cost were an emocore band from Oakland , California / USA that existed from 1999 to 2004.

history

All members of the band were close friends even before the band was founded, so the band was always a friendship project for them.

The band toured extensively on the West Coast and across the United States.

In 2002, Chimera was the band's first and only album on the Lockout label ! Records out. Overall, the band released an EP and a split EP and was featured on some samplers.

In a report and interview about the band in 2002 it is said about the album:

"The Cost's new album, Chimera, may just be the next step in the East Bay hardcore evolutionary ladder, proving its spirit is alive and well"

In July 2003 the band played their last concert and then broke up.

style

The band plays a sometimes rather chaotic emo style. Characteristic are the slow, melancholic parts in their pieces - which are supported by briefly appearing atmospheric guitar walls - as well as faster, harder outbursts with emotional screams and screamed or half-written parts of the text. Furthermore, there are also rather very fast hardcore punk-typical pieces with emotional - sometimes screamed - vocals.

In addition to many emo and hardcore punk bands, the post-hardcore legend Fugazi and the no-wave / noise rock band Sonic Youth are named as influences.
