Lookout! Records
Lookout! Records was an American record label for punk music , based in Berkeley , California .
The company was founded in 1987 by Larry Livermore and David Hayes. However, Hayes left the label in 1989 and founded Very Small Records and Too Many Records. In 1997, Larry Livermore sold the company to former postal worker Chris Appelgren.
Since Lookout! Records, the label promoted punk / pop punk bands, especially the local Bay Area scene, and now it also produces hardcore and indie rock bands.
Label founder Livermore played in the punk band The Lookouts, which existed from 1985 to 1990 (with the 12-year-old later Green Day drummer Tré Cool ), which gave the name and also the first record release of the then founded label.
The most important band of the early years was Operation Ivy . Lookout! Records played a major role in the success of Green Day, as the company released the first two EPs 1000 Hours and Slappy and the first two albums 39 / Smooth and Kerplunk! produced. The Donnas were under contract with the label until 2002 before switching to the major label Atlantic.
In August 2005, the company announced that the record company had to " downsize " due to financial difficulties . The situation was made worse by the fact that Green Day Lookout! Records had withdrawn the distribution of the label's first two Green Day albums due to outstanding payments. In December 2009, the label announced a "financial reconstruction (finance reconstruction) to" who was but little success. The label officially dissolved in January 2012.
