39 / Smooth is the first studio album by the American band Green Day . It was released on LP and cassette by Lookout in April 1990 ! Records and is the only one that recorded the band in the original line-up with John Kiffmeyer on drums. Kiffmeyer left the band shortly after the album was released and was replaced by Tré Cool .
A year later, 39 / Smooth was released with the previously released EPs 1,000 Hours and Slappy as a compilation 1,039 / Smoothed Out Slappy Hours , which reached gold status in the USA with over 500,000 copies sold. This is why 1,039 / Smoothed Out Slappy Hours is often referred to as the first Green Day album.
In 2009 Reprise Records released a rerelease of the 39 / Smooth LP.
The band only needed a total of 22 hours to record. They took place from December 29, 1989 to January 2, 1990.
