Nimrod is the fifth studio album by the American punk rock band Green Day . The album was released as HDCD and like the two previous albums on Reprise Records and achieved double platinum status, but could not achieve the sales success of Dookie with 6 million copies sold .

Nice Guys Finish Last , Hitchin 'a Ride , Redundant and Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) , which is one of Green Day's most successful songs , were released as single .

In Green Days band history, this album holds prominence as the one with which their style began to change. Songs like Walking Alone or King for a Day took off with wind instruments, harmonica and the like. Ä. from punk rock to pop punk .

Music genre

Even if the usual style of Green Day is present on Nimrod , there are also several other styles of music on the album. In addition to "punk" songs like Platypus , Reject or Nice Guys Finish Last , there are also pop-punk songs ( Worry Rock , Redundant ), but also songs like the acoustic ballad Good Riddance (Time of your Life) or the instrumental piece Last Ride In and the aforementioned songs Walking Alone and King for a Day are featured on the album.

In Australia, in addition to the 18 songs on the normal album, Suffocate , Desensitized , You Lied and Do Da Da were on the CD. The mentioned songs were published on the compilation album Shenanigans and the B-sides of Good Riddance (Time of your Life) and Brain Stew / Jaded respectively.

Good riddance

The ballad Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) became a worldwide hit and the accompanying video , in which Billie Joe Armstrong plays lonely on his guitar, became one of the most broadcast of 1997. It won an MTV Video Music Award . The song was in the penultimate episode ( The Clip Show ) of the US sitcom " Seinfeld " and is often played at weddings (although the song is about a phase of life that has ended) and funerals.
