Awesome as Fuck , also Awesome as F ** k , is a live album by the American punk rock band Green Day , which was released in the USA on March 22, 2011 . In Germany it was launched on March 18 . The album was created from live recordings of sixteen different concerts on the 21st Century Breakdown World Tour , which the band took on after the release of their eighth studio album, 21st Century Breakdown (2009). In addition to the CD, the album also includes a DVD or Blu-ray Disc showing the concert in the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan .

Emergence

After the release of the studio album 21st Century Breakdown , the band went on a world tour. During this tour, recordings for the CD were made at various locations on the tour. Three recordings were made in Great Britain , seven in the USA , two in Austria and one each in Ireland , Japan , Germany , Canada and Australia . The DVD, however, only comes from a concert in Saitama , Japan.

With Cigarettes and Valentines , the album contains a song that was originally supposed to be released on Cigarettes and Valentines , the "stolen" Green Day album prior to the creation of American Idiot .

reception

The album received mostly positive reviews from music critics . Metacritic calculated an average of 64% from 12 professional reviews. This gave the album the rating of "generally favorable".

Thomas Nassiff, critic at absolutepunk.net , is enthusiastic about the album and writes that although the album does not come close to its live predecessor Bullet in a Bible , it is still worth buying. The performance of Green Day is very convincing and one is reminded of the old days of the band. Nassiff sees the fluctuating sound quality of the recordings as a negative side. As an overall rating, he gives 84%.

Allmusic awards 3 out of 5 stars. Critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine says about Awesome as Fuck that the song selection fits well with Green Day's repertoire and that the band's enthusiasm can also be heard on the CD.

Cdstarts.de thinks about the album that there is hardly anything left from the band's earlier appearance, which is okay due to the long time span. As a result, according to critic Matthias Reichel, the album is okay, but not really exciting. The grade awarded is 6 out of 10 points.

Jochen Gedwien from Plattentests.de awards 5 out of 10 possible points. He says about the album that there is actually nothing to complain about and that Green Day entertains the audience well. He also rates the recording quality positively. However, he rates the editing and marketing negatively, which makes Green Day seem too much changed and the album seems too mass-compatible.

Laut.de is rather critical of the album. Critic Ulf Kubanke writes that Green Daycan no longer keep upwith more modern punk rock bands like Rise Against or Rival Schools . In general, he thinks the songs are too simple-minded and also in terms of entertainment for the audience, the band cannot convince in his opinion. It only awards 2 stars out of 5.
